After an eight-month suspension, Alitalia has resumed flights between Italy and Libya. The first flight, AZ 868, left the Rome Fiumicino airport at 11.05 a.m. and landed in Tripoli at 200 p.m. local time with 100 passengers on board.
Alitalia is the first European Union airline to have restarted its operation of commercial (passenger and cargo) flights to and from Libya.
One month ago, Alitalia reopened its commercial offices in Tripoli and resumed the operation of its Customer Centre in Libya. The flight schedule between Rome and Tripoli includes four weekly frequencies (on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) with midday departure times. Currently, flights are operated to and from the Tripoli Mitiga airport, but in the next few days operations will shift to the Tripoli International airport.
In 2010, on the Rome – Tripoli route, Alitalia transported more than 75,000 passengers.
