Barbados, American Express Publishing Announce First Annual Barbados Food & Wine & Rum Festival Schedule

The first annual Barbados Food & Wine and Rum Festival will be the culinary event of the season as the beautiful island of Barbados, in partnership with American Express Publishing’s magazine brands, unveil the schedule of events for the four-day epicurean extravaganza taking place from November 19 – 22, 2010 on this lush Caribbean island. 

Hosted by Travel + Leisure’s Features Director Nilou Motamed, the Festival will feature culinary masters Tom Colicchio, Marcus Samuelsson, Ming Tsai and Tim Love joined by London-based chef, Fergus Henderson, bringing their collective expertise to the masses through chef demonstrations, tasting events and interactive sessions.  Wine seminars and events will be curated by FOOD & WINE Executive Wine Editor, Ray Isle and wine expert Anthony Giglio.  Guests will also get the chance to experience the authentic flavors of Barbados by local chefs including John Hazzard, Peter Edey and Henderson Butcher, who be demonstrating their culinary prowess alongside some of the most famous chefs in the world.

The Festival kicks off with the opening reception at the iconic Hilton Barbados where guests will have the opportunity to mingle with the Festival’s headline chefs, while tasting renowned rums blended in Barbados, outstanding wines from vineyards around the world as well a variety of other spirits.

Lunch will begin with a walk through the barrels of history.  With over 300 years of rum-crafting traditions, Mount Gay is the rum that invented rum.  Guests will learn the history of rum-making and sample a variety of fine blends in the company of Food & Wine Executive Wine Editor Ray Isle.  He will also discuss rum and food pairings, while guests enjoy a sumptuous rum-infused meal, prepared by a top local chef.
