In December, Barceló Hotels & Resorts debuted in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico, with an all-inclusive resort on the shores of the Sea of Cortez. Barceló Los Cabos Palace Deluxe comprises 619 suites that feature crisp, contemporary Mexican decor and amenities like 40-inch, interactive, flat-screen TVs; Wi-Fi; and bathrooms with rain showers and deep, jetted tubs. Our ocean-facing Junior Suite had Smart Room technology that allowed us to control the blinds, lights, TV and temperature with the click of a button.

Of Barceló’s eight room categories, we predict the ground-floor swim-up suites will be a consistent request. Each such suite’s terrace tapers off into an adjacent swimming pool. A word of caution: Our suite in Tower 3 was susceptible to nighttime noise from a neighboring resort. Be sure to book rooms in towers that are more removed for clients who prefer peace and quiet.

We also toured one of the resort’s Honeymoon Suites, which was yet to open, and found it the perfect choice for VIPs for its sheer square footage and top-floor location in Tower 2 overlooking the property’s central landscape.

In addition to swimming in Barceló’s five pools, guests can try snorkeling and deep-sea fishing in the waters off of the resort’s beach, as well as play golf at nearby courses. We opted for an afternoon whale-watching excursion with Ocean Riders Los Cabos, which brought us within a few feet of giant, graceful humpbacks. Guests can also visit downtown San Jose Del Cabo, whose tidy streets are lined with shops, restaurants and galleries. There, we stumbled upon the French Riviera Bakery & Pastry shop—a must-visit for fresh-baked croissants, bread and pan-au-chocolate, and sweets. Tip: Plan a visit around Los Cabos’ jazz and film festivals for clients who enjoy cultural events.

A team of 15 chefs oversees Barceló’s five à la carte restaurants, which offer Italian, Spanish, Japanese and French fare, as well as steakhouse-style cuisine.
