A Tour of Belize’s San Ignacio Resort Hotel

Travel Agent arrived Monday afternoon for a week-long tour of Belize and our first stop, our first of several hotels, was a luxury boutique hotel where Queen Elizabeth once stayed.

Not a bad start at all.

I’m staying in a balcony room, no. 115. It has a king-sized bed, a balcony with a hammock and garden views and a flat-screen television. My room is perfect and if I were actually paying for it, this is exactly where I would stay.

The top accommodations in the house, however is the Master Suite, a lone unit located on the second floor of the hotel. It has a huge living area, a bed, but most importantly, a balcony with a Jacuzzi overlooking the green mountains of Belize’s west coast.

Queen Elizabeth, however, stayed in a Regal Suite, the best category at the time of her 1994 stay. The Master Suite was added just three years ago.

The resort is home to huge swimming pool and a small spa with two treatment rooms.

This place can accommodate families, but it would really be a waste if your clients didn’t take advantage of this resort with a loved one. The setting and the quiet atmosphere make this a perfect place for couples to unwind.

But if your clients do bring the little ones, tell them to go on a tour of the Iguana Project, a small iguana protection area on site. Ask for Eddy Estrada, the resort’s iguana caretaker. He can explain (better than I can) all the exotic plants and insects that can be found on property before allowing guests to hold and pet iguanas of every size…if they’re up to.

I’m currently here during Belize’s dry season, but the west coast area I’m staying in tonight usually sees about 182 inches of rain a year, so tell clients to expect to get a little wet. But the country wouldn’t be as green and beautiful without the rain.

Agents should call  the resort's Administrative Assistant Patricia Rodriguez as 501-824-2034.
