Travel Agent's Stay in San Pedro, Belize

Travel Agent arrived at its second resort Wednesday during a week-long trip in Belize.

I took a 20-minute flight from San Ignacio and arrived in San Pedro where I’m staying at the Portofino Beach Resort.

San Pedro has been described as Belize’s Cancun, mostly because of all the cool clubs, bars and fantastic restaurants and the resort I’m staying in now fits right in.

There are eight beach cabanas here with clear and unobstructed Caribbean views, along with three Tree Top suites that are on stilts 10 feet in the air, offering views over the Caribbean and the second longest barrier reef in the world.

I’m in a cabana called Sea Horse. It’s a pretty simple room. It has wooden floors, tons of space, a shower located in the back, a pretty small television and a mini-refrigerator. It’s basically all I really need. The bed is king-sized and has a bamboo headboard. Actually, most of the furniture in this room is made of bamboo.

But while the room is spacious and comfortable, that is not the selling point to this resort. What is? I open my door and there is the beach. Simple as that.

There is a gorgeous swimming pool on property, the beach, a cool beach bar and water taxis that can take you to all the cool restaurants and bars, all located within 10-20 minutes from the resort. The water taxis cost about $10 each way or week-long, unlimited passes can be purchased at the resort when booking.

I recommend booking this resort for couples, but there is tons of nightlife surrounding the resort that makes it a good spot for a girls or guys getaway as well.
