Design Hotels has announced that new member 11 Howard will open in New York City's SoHo district this March.
Meant to embody a Scandanavian take on design, the new hotel will have a culinary concept from restaurateur Stephen Starr and a co-working space, the 11H Collective.
Spearheaded by Aby Rosen -- the same mind behind the Gramercy Park Hotel -- the 221 room hotel will be designed by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard of Danish design studio Space Copenhagen, in collaboration with Anda Andrei. The hotel's aesthetics are informed by the design studio's new-Nordic minimalism, with custom lighting and furnishings by Mads Raaschou and Gubi. All rooms have high ceilings and windows for extra natural light, with a material palette of subtly-hued variations of wood, warm metals, velvet, and wool.
11 Howard will also collaborate with young, contemporary artists such as Katie Yang, Dan Attoe and Hiroshi Sugimoto, as well as the Global Poverty Project and Conscious Commerce.
