Carnival Splendor Cancels Two Port Calls Due to Engine Issue

Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Splendor has been forced to remove two calls from its itinerary due to a technical issue that is affecting the ship’s maximum cruising speed, the line said in a statement provided to Travel Agent.

The ship’s technical team is currently working on assessing the repairs.

Because of the speed limitations, the ship’s remaining calls at St. Thomas and Amber Cove in the Caribbean have been cancelled, allowing the ship to return to its homeport of Miami on Sunday as previously scheduled.

Carnival has issued a 50 percent refund and a 50 percent credit toward a future cruise, as well as a $100 per person shipboard credit, to all guests on the ship’s current voyage.

“We sincerely apologize for this disruption to our guests’ vacation plans,” the line said.

Carnival Splendor is on the fourth day of a seven-day cruise that departed Miami on Sunday. Its next cruise, according to the cruise line’s website, is scheduled to depart March 5 and last through March 12, calling at Cozumel, Belize, Mahogany Bay, and Grand Cayman before returning to Miami.

The ship, which has a total capacity of 3,012 guests, has signature Carnival amenities including a Splash Park and Carnival Twister Waterslide, as well as a midship pool with a retractable roof. There is also a Serenity Adult-Only Retreat, and the brand’s Cloud 9 Spa, which includes a Thalassotherapy pool and dry heat chamber. Notable dining options include the Steakhouse and Mongolian Wok restaurants.
