New Discovery Princess is Christened in Los Angeles

Princess Cruises' newest ship, the 3,660-passenger Discovery Princess, was christened at the Port of Los Angeles on Saturday by several television stars and show hosts.

Godparents included: Randy Fenoli, fashion designer; Chef Alex Guarnaschelli, Adam Savage, special effects designer and fabricator; and Page Turner, real estate broker and house flipper.

Standing at the ship's outdoor Retreat Pool along with Captain Gennaro Arma, the godparents together pronounced, “We name this ship Discovery Princess. May God bless her and all who sail on her.” A giant bottle of champagne then smashed against the ship's side.

“Today is a celebration to remember as our newest ship, Discovery Princess, is officially named by this talented group of experts and personalities – Randy, Alex, Adam, and Page,” said John Padgett, president, Princess Cruises. The new ship expands the line's fleet of MedallionClass ships to 15.

The new ship debuted in Los Angeles on March 27, sailing a series of Mexican Riviera and California Coast voyages through April 24. After the naming ceremony in Los Angeles, the new ship then sailed up the Pacific coast to begin a season of seven-day Alaska cruises from Seattle, WA.

Built at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, Discovery Princess is the sixth and final Royal-class new build. Sisters include Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess and Royal Princess

The ship offers an array of new experiences and Sky Suites with Princess' largest balconies at sea; those suites have 270-degree views. Discovery Princess also offers such signature Princess venues and amenities as the Piazza, Lotus Spa, The Sanctuary, Movies Under the Stars, Gigi’s Pizzeria, Camp Discovery Youth & Teen Center and the Discovery at SEA program, among others.
