MSC Cruises’ entire fleet of 19 ships is now back at sea following MSC Musica’s return to service on Sunday. The ship set sail for the start of the summer 2022 season on the first of 23 seven-night voyages to Katakolon, Crete and Santorini in Greece, plus Bari, Italy.
Rubén Rodríguez, president, MSC Cruises USA, said: “Putting the last of our ships back into service is a milestone for all of our hard-working crew members onboard, and it’s a milestone for our guests looking for new ways to discover fantastic destinations around the world."
MSC Cruises was the first major cruise line to return to service after the pandemic shut-down cruising in early 2020. MSC Grandiosa started that "return to service" when it set sail with guests on board in August 2020.
Global Homeporting
As cruise lines have returned to service, some home ports may differ than those in the past, due in part to shut-down of certain regions or countries. Simply put, it's a whirlwind, at times, for travel advisors to follow.
So, here's a look at MSC Cruises’ full fleet deployment for summer 2022:
In North America, MSC Divina is home ported at Port Canaveral,FL, while MSC Seashore sails from Miami.
In the western Mediterranean, MSC Meraviglia is sailing from Barcelona, Spain, while these ships are home ported in Genoa, Italy: MSC Opera, MSC Orchestra, MSC Seaside, MSC Seaview and MSC Splendida.
In the eastern Mediterannean, MSC Armonia and MSC Sinfonia are homeported at Venice/Marghera, while MSC Fantasia sails from Trieste, Italy. In addition, MSC Lirica sails from Piraeus (Athens), and MSC Musica from Monfalcone/Venice.
Back sailing in northern Europe are MSC Grandiosa and MSC Preziosa from Kiel, Germany; MSC Magnifica from Hamburg, Germany; MSC Poesia from Warnemünde, Germany, and MSC Virtuosa from Southampton, U.K.
In the Middle East, MSC Bellissima home ports in Dubai, U.A.E.
Ambitious Expansion
MSC Cruises has remained committed to an ambitious expansion program throughout the pandemic. The cruise line introduced two new vessels, MSC Virtuosa and MSC Seashore, to its fleet in 2021.
The brand will welcome two more ships, MSC Seascape and MSC World Europa, in late 2022. MSC World Europa will be the line's first LNG-powered (liquefied natural gas) vessel. Sales for both ships are already open.
