"Hairspray" at Sea Onboard Royal Caribbean's Oasis

After nearly seven-years on Broadway, The Tony award-winning "Hairspray" debuts at sea on Royal Caribbean International's Oasis of the Seas when the ship sets sail from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale in December. One of two productions to take place in the ship's grand Opal Theater, a 90-minute showing of "Hairspray" will take place three or four times on each seven-night cruise itinerary.

The show is licensed to Royal Caribbean International for three years aboard Oasis of the Seas with an option for a fourth year. The agreement was struck with the aid of New York City-based Music Theater International and Broadway Theatrical for the show to remain exclusive to the cruise line.

Hairspray received eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and is currently playing in London's West End.

"Hairspray" is the one of several live entertainment showcases on Oasis of the Seas, which will also offer an innovative aerial show— yet to be formally announced.
