Making a Difference: More Windstar Enhancements

Wind Star's Wind Surf.

Windstar Cruises’ successful Degrees of Difference continues as the three-ship line begins a new initiative featuring added amenities and enhancements to its ships, from food to spa, which will be completed in stages by summer of 2010. While the entire fleet will be enhanced in dining, spa, fitness, activities, shore excursions and e-sail documents, Wind Surf will receive a few more enhancements, we are told.

Restaurant menus on all three ships will have new dishes that will exhibit flavors of the destinations that Windstar Cruises visits.

Wind Surf’s alternative restaurant Degrees will feature a new rotating menu showcasing the use of authentic ingredients and simple techniques. Examples include: Tuscan shrimp and white beans; grilled lamb loin chops with green olives, preserved lemon and spinach; and baked snapper with nicoise olives, tomato and basil.

The ship’s Yacht Club will be transformed into a contemporary wine bar featuring a selection of California, Washington, Oregon, New Zealand and Australian wines by the glass. During each sailing, guests will be able to partake in special sommelier-led wine tastings featuring Riedel stemware.

There will also be new accommodations. Spa suites on Wind Surf will have special bedding and linens, spa amenities and credits for certified organic spa services and fitness classes in WindSpa, Spa reservations are now bookable in advance by calling 1-888-820-0418 and will be available online at Windstar’s website in December.

All three ships will receive new state-of-the-art fitness equipment, including weight machines, treadmills, bikes and stair climbers from Technogym. Windstar will also be investing in new watersports equipment on all three ships.

Windstar has always had an eye on technology. The ships’ library DVD collections have been expanded, while the line’s iPod program now has an addition: guests can now also check out a Kindle.

Earlier this year, Windstar launched its Concierge Collection of Shore Excursions designed to appeal to guests who were looking for small group experiences in Europe (six to 25 guests). Expanding on this concept, Windstar will arrange private shore excursions and customized pre- and post-cruise packages for guests. Windstar will also add personal iPod Discovery Walks in Italy, Croatia, France, Greece, Monaco, Portugal and Spain.
