Ponant's Le Champlain to Offer Music-themed Cruise Celebrating Composers

Ponant will “Celebrate American Composers with the Boston Pops” aboard Le Champlain from October 19 to 27, 2020.

The cruise is part of Ponant's Quintessential Collection of themed cruises, offering experiences exploring a variety of cultural and lifestyle subjects. The cruise fuses Old World French elegance and New World American energy both in the ports of call and through the music performed. Rates start at $5,070 per person.

The eight-night itinerary starts in Montreal and ends in Boston. Travelers will explore the waterways of eastern Canada and northern New England and sample the natural and historical parts of the region. Stops include Québec, Tadoussac, Percé, Cap-Aux-Meules, Louisbourg, and Lunenburg in Canada as well as Bar Harbor.

A musical program curated by Boston Pops Conductor, Keith Lockhart, will be showcased by six performers. Maestro Lockhart will conduct four exclusive concerts including one in a historic venue while ashore in Quebec. The musical program will feature chamber music, piano works and pieces by Debussy, Ravel, Faure, Saint Saens, Gershwin, Milhaud, George Antheil, Copland, Ellington, Barber, Ives and Antonin Dvorak.

Ponant is also introducing additional musical cruises for 2019 and 2020. The seven-night “A Musical Odyssey in the Mediterranean” aboard Le Bougainville from Athens to Rome is slated for September 20 -27, 2019, while the nine-night “A Musical Odyssey in Northern Europe,” celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday, aboard Le Dumont-d’Urville from Stockholm to Honfleur is slated for September 8 -17, 2020.
