Riviera Resumes Sailing on More European Rivers

Following the successful restart of its cruises on Portugal’s Douro River in August, Riviera River Cruises has resumed operations in additional European destinations. The cruise line has begun sailing on France’s Seine and Rhône Rivers, and an additional itinerary on the Main River and Main-Danube Canal in Germany is also underway. All guests boarding Riviera ships must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or present a negative test prior to travel.

The four itineraries that have restarted will run through November 22, and they include “The Douro, Porto and Salamanca River Cruise,” “The Seine, Paris & Normandy River Cruise,” “Burgundy, the River Rhône & Provence River Cruise” and “Medieval Germany River Cruise.”

Riviera has announced that it will continue to evaluate travel guidelines throughout Europe and restart additional itineraries when possible.

The cruise line is offering “flexible customer care policies,” which include COVID-19 cancellation and curtailment protection, and Riviera’s “happiness guarantee.” If a guest isn’t able to travel specifically due to COVID-19, the booking can be transferred to another departure date for free with as little as 24 hours’ notice. If a guest has to cut their holiday short specifically due to COVID-19 and a travel insurer doesn’t cover it, Riviera will provide compensation for the missed portion of the cruise. And if a guest isn’t happy by the second day of their cruise, Riviera will assist in bringing them home with a full refund.

The cruise line says that as part of its health and safety practices, each ship is cleaned, shared equipment and touch points are regularly disinfected, suitcase handles are disinfected, hand sanitizers are made available throughout the ship and social distancing is followed on coaches for excursions with temperatures taken upon re-boarding. The line also claims to provide contact-free services throughout the ship and full table service in restaurants with seating to allow for social distancing.

With a fleet of 12 ships in Europe, Riviera River Cruises offers 20 itineraries on 10 rivers and waterways, including dedicated departures for solo travelers with no single supplement.
