Royal Caribbean Announces Freedom's Godmother

A woman who has served as a foster mother to more than 400 children has been selected as godmother of Royal Caribbean International's Freedom of the Seas. Katherine Louise Calder of Portland, OR, had been one of three finalists profiled in the "Today Sets Sail" national search on NBC's The Today Show. She received the highest number of the 171,000-plus votes cast and will take part in the christening May 12 that will air live on Today. In christening its new vessel, Royal Caribbean had wanted to select what it described as an extraordinary everyday person to serve as godmother. The line, saying it was moved by the stories of Calder and her co-finalists, is donating $25,000 to each of their charities. Visit [www.royalcaribbean.com].
