Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Rolls-Royce reached an amicable resolution to the lawsuit regarding the Mermaid pop-propulsion system installed on Celebrity Cruises' Millennium ships. The settlement is expected to generate a net increase of $65 million.
The initial design, installed to provide an alternative, and advantage, over traditional shaft propulsion, experienced a host of technical difficulties. Since then, the two companies have worked together to improve the technology. The ships with pods are Millennium, Summit, Infinity and Constellation.
