Royal Caribbean Ship Sets Sail After $120 Million in Improvements

Royal Caribbean International’s Mariner of the Seas has set sail for the first time following an extensive series of improvements. The ship now sails out of PortMiami to the Bahamas on short 4-night weekday and 3-night weekend cruises.

The company spent $120 million updating the ship as part of its $900 million plan to improve 10 of its ships over four years. The ship is the second, after Independence of the Seas, to complete its renovations.

The updates to Mariner of the Seas include a host of new activities, restaurants and bars. The company added a virtual reality bungee trampoline experience, two three-story waterslides, glow-in-the-dark laser tag, an all-ages escape room and a 40-foot-long surfing simulator. In the sphere of dining and drinking, the ship also added Polynesian craft cocktail bar The Bamboo Room, Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade, Jamie’s Italian and Izumi Hibachi and Sushi.

Mariner of the Seas, currently sails from Miami, stopping in Nassau and CocoCay. The ship will be sailing smaller itineraries to appeal to customers who want more frequent and shorter vacations.

Starting in May 2019, the ship will stop in the new Perfect Day at CocoCay. This will mark the first of the company’s recently announced private island experiences.

Royal Caribbean International runs a fleet of 25 cruise ships, visiting locations in Bermuda and the Caribbean, Europe, Canada and New England, Alaska, Australia and New Zealand, South America and Asia.
