This Week in Cruise Recovery: More Restarts and Programs for 2022

While cruise recovery continues across the globe, travel advisors are kicking off the annual Wave Season, the time of the year when consumers typically get the best deals and incentives for booking. But, is this year’s Wave Season the same or different than in the past?

Travel Agent talked with travel advisors and agency executives about what they’re seeing and how they’re approaching this year’s Wave Season in clearly what is a non-typical year. We asked will the "Wave" be the same or different as year's past? And what sales trends are they seeing? Five travel advisors, franchise owners and agency executives "sounded off" and provided insight on the largely positive initiative, despite the detection of a new COVID-19 variant.

On the restart front, Ponant’s Le Bellot, according to our sister publication Luxury Travel Advisor, became the first cruise ship to begin sailing again from the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. It will be joined by Le Bougainville and Le Jacques-CartierSales for Ponant's 2022-23 winter season are also now open, with six itineraries and 18 cruises scheduled.

In addition, Croatian-based Katarina Line is introducing new departures and enhancing its inland tours as cruises for the 2022 season are being booked “at a record pace.” The goal, the cruise line says, is to provide travelers with a more immersive exploration of some of Croatia’s most popular islands, coastal towns, inland natural attractions and UNESCO sites.
