Ascend Collection Announces First Hotel in Costa Rica

The Ascend Collection membership program from Choice Hotels International makes it debut in Central America with a new member hotel in the capital city of San Jose, Costa Rica, the company announced last week.

Expansion continues in Canada as well, with new properties in Quebec and Ontario.

The lodgings are Gran Hotel, San Jose; St-Christophe Hotel & Spa, Granby, Québec; and Hidden Valley Resort, Huntsville, the portfolio's inaugural property in Ontario.

“Each hotel is in a prime location,” said Stacy Ragland, vice president of operations for Ascend Collection, in a written release. “We are thrilled to offer our guests these exceptional properties and new destinations to explore and enjoy. We look forward to continuing our international expansion in the coming year.”

In 2011, membership in Ascend Collection rose nearly 35 percent over the previous year, Ragland reports. As a member of this portfolio, each hotel remains independently owned and managed.

The Gran Hotel houses 107 guest rooms and suites, a full-service spa, piano bar, art gallery, coffee shop, business center, fitness center, meeting rooms and a gift shop. Guestrooms are equipped with free Wi-Fi, minibars, flat-screen TVs and more.
