Belize Appoints New CEO, Former Resigns Amid Controversy

According to a 7Newsbelize.com report, the Belize Tourism Board on Monday named Lindsay Garbutt its new CEO following the resignation of former CEO Michael Singh, who has been caught up in controversy for the past three months.

Garbutt has served the board as a director, founder and representative and most recently as the chairman of the board for the past eight months. Minister Manuel Heredia also introduced Mariam Robertson as the new chair of the Belize Tourism Board Directors, who has served on the board the last two years. Lastly, Heredia announced Brian Young from Placencia would fill Garbutt's position on the board. Young has been involved in the tourism industry for most his life as one of Belize’s top dive masters and owner of Seahorse Dive Shop.

Singh, according to the report, first tangled with the Federation of Cruise Tourism Associations, was accused of having an “in” on a land deal that gave rise to a proposed cruise tourism port in Placencia and later feuded with the BTB board of directors.
