Cancun Sees Record Numbers in 2013

The Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau is reporting that 2013 was one of the best years on record for the destination, thanks to the increasing numbers of tourists and visitors - welcome news for Mexico in general. Cancun's hotels, excursions and activities brought more than 4 million tourists in 2013.

Cancun closed off the year with an increase of 13.4 percent in hotel occupancy compared to 2012. The destination's hotel zone received 96.6 percent in hotel occupancy in December alone.

According to passenger traffic reported by the Cancun International Airport, from the months of January to September, 2013 the destination received 1.2 million more passengers than the same months in 2012.

In 2012, Cancun welcomed 3.6 million visitors compared to 2011, which saw 3.1 million arrivals. Cancun readies itself for even more visitors in 2014 with many important events in the first quarter of the year, including the third annual Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine and Food Festival and the biggest tourism industry event in Mexico: Tianguis Turistico.
