As Travel Agent noted two years ago, Acapulco once at the forefront of Mexico tourism for years and years. But then destinations such as Cancun, the Riveria Maya and the Riviera Nayarit came along in recent years, saturating the tourism market and upping the competition. Acapulco still gets its share, of course, some of it pertaining to the rise of Spring Break travel among U.S. college students. But back in 1966, the Pacific Coast city had a larger piece of the pie.
We, of course, still thing the destination is a prime one for the traveling. Not only is there a slew of new hotels in the region, but the Acapulco Marketing Destination Office has launched a virtual training program for travel professionals. A great thing never dies, and so can be said about the value of a vacation in Acapulco.
Back in 1966, the destination didn't need to tout its hotels nor did it it require technology to engage travel agents. All it needed was a well-worded advertisement about what the Mexican paradise has to offer, as can be seen in the ad to the right (read it fully for yourself by clicking here).
