five years ago, CIE Tours International reports it will be offering 15 departures of the Italian Treasures tour, a nine-day/seven-night escorted vacation. Brian Stack, managing director of CIE Tours International said departures are scheduled on Saturdays, every other week, starting April 9 and continuing through November 12.

This first class Italy vacation, priced from $1,998 land-only, is described in Ireland, Scotland, England & Wales, with Italy & European River Cruising, a new 100-page brochure and on the CIE Tours web site, www.cietours.com.

Focusing on the cultural and scenic highlights of Italy, the itinerary begins in Venice and then continues south through the Emilia Romagna region to Pisa, and Florence, and then through the beautiful countryside of Tuscany and Umbria, to Assisi and Rome.

Activities include half-day walking tours in Venice, Florence, Pisa and Rome with local guides; glass-blowing demonstration at Murano Island, Venice; guided tour of Vatican Museums with Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica; visits and admissions to Doges' Palace, St. Mark's Basilica, Academy of Fine Arts, Basilica of St. Francis, Roman Forum and Colosseum; outside views of Florence Cathedral and Baptistery; plus free time for independent sightseeing and shopping in Venice, Florence and Rome.

CIE reports the price includes group airport transfers on arrival by water taxi in Venice and coach or car on departure in Rome; first class hotels with private bath/shower for seven nights; seven buffet breakfasts with a selection of cold dishes; four dinners in hotels or local restaurants; lunch at a Tuscan farm; complete sightseeing tour in private deluxe air-conditioned motorcoach, and all admission charges.

Tours are accompanied by a professional English-speaking tour escort who is not only a guide, but also a companion who explains local customs and menu choices, arranges VIP entry into attractions, and smoothes the itinerary path.
