CostaBaja in Mexico to Add Second Hotel

NEW YORK CITY, New YorkTravel Agent sat down with representatives of CostaBaja, a residential, master planned resort community in La Paz, Baja California, Mexico, Tuesday and learned that construction on a second hotel could begin as early as next year.

The 550-acre property is already home to the recently upgraded CostaBaja Resort & Marina, which completed $9 million in refurbishments at the end of last year after being closed for nearly 10 months.

Alejandro C. Yberri, director general/CEO of the resort community, says a developer for the new hotel will be announced within the next 60 days. Whereas CostaBaja Resort & Marina caters primarily to families, Yberri says initial plans for the new hotel will call for a roughly 150-room family-oriented resort.

“When the economic crisis first hit Mexico and when all the violence in Mexico started happening, we were really the only company who continued developing in both 2009 and 2010,” says Yberri, referring to the first and second phases of the master planned project. “And we are not done.”
