Fiji's Tourism Numbers on the Rise

Travel to Fiji is on the rise again! According to the Fiji Islands Bureau of Statistics' April 2010 report, Fiji’s inbound U.S. market attained a 26.2 percent increase in visitor arrivals when compared to 2009. A total of 4,450 U.S. residents visited Fiji, compared to 3,526 visitors in April last year.

According to Regional Director Ili Matatolu, “This number shows a year-to-date growth of 10.2 percent and also exceeds our April 2008 numbers by 10.9 percent. Our target for 2010 is to get back to pre GFC or 2008 levels in terms of recovery marketing benchmarking.”

She added that, while the numbers were okay, “our efforts must continue to focus on increasing the average yield and length of stay from this market to maximize returns on our marketing funds.”

North America is Fiji’s third largest inbound market and Fiji is targeting 65,000 U.S. visitors in calendar year 2010.
