Get to Know Colonial Taxco, Mexico

If Taxco, Mexico is not on your travel radar, then listen up! This colonial city in the state of Guerrero, is 120 miles from Mexico City and 170 miles from Acapulco. Its cobblestone streets, narrow alleys and 16th-century architecture are what sets it apart from other destinations in Mexico.

The city has also been recognized as one of the 83 Magic Towns in Mexico. Most recently, as part of the "Taxco City of Lights" project, the colonial city installed a series of special lighting and illumination on churches, plazas, streets and alleyways.

Known for silver, Taxco has more than 300 silver shops, as well. 

This year be sure to catch the Down Hill Taxco 2013 event, which is an international mountain bike race event, held October 25 and 27.
