Representatives of the Holualoa Inn, a 30-acre, historic coffee estate in Kona, Hawaii, recently announced the unveiling of The Darrell Hill Cottage, a vintage one-bedroom bungalow.
The former home of late Hawaii artist, Darrell Hill, the 1940s-era cottage has been beautifully renovated and artfully furnished by Holualoa Inn.
Ideal for couples or honeymooners, the cottage features an ocean-view bedroom with wrap-around lanai, dressing room/parlor (adjacent to main bath with tiled walk-in shower), living area, dining nook, and a fully equipped kitchen stocked with ingredients for continental breakfast. Set amid private gardens, the cottage offers scenic views of the surrounding coffee lands situated above the panoramic Kona Coast.
Artist Darrell Hill's impressionistic oils and watercolors have become iconic throughout the Hawaiian Islands and are featured in collections worldwide. Four of his art pieces are displayed at the cottage. He created some of his most famous paintings in the cottage, said Holualoa Inn innkeeper and owner, Cassandra Hazen.
"Darrell and his wife, Pat, lived in the cottage for many years before moving to Waimea," said Hazen in a written release. "His gallery was in the front of the cottage and his studio was in the back. We had begun renovation on the cottage when we heard that Darrell passed away this February. His wife Pat was in town and stopped by to see what we were up to. That's when the idea for dedicating the cottage to him was born."
