The Homestead Ski Resort to Open Dec. 11

An Appalachian cold front has dropped temperatures enough to get ski season started in Hot Springs, Virginia. The Homestead ski area will open Saturday, December 11, at 9:00 a.m., according to a release.

The ski area will open a week earlier than it did last year, and the snow conditions are described as "great" at the present time. The Homestead currently has a snow base of 20 to 46 inches with groomed packed powder conditions. Two ski lifts will be open on Saturday, along with nine trails that accommodate all levels of skier.

The area also offers a youth program called the Little Penguins program. Little Penguins offers guests aged 3 through 12 the chance to enjoy snow-related activities like building snowmen and sledding while the adults enjoy the ski slopes.
