Hong Kong Receives Record Number of Arrivals in July

The Hong Kong Tourism Board is reporting a record amount of arrival numbers from last July. A total 22.4 percent increase is being reported year on year, a new record for single-month arrivals.

"Despite an uncertain economy, the unique combination of cultural authenticity and sophistication continues to drive visitation increases to Hong Kong from the U.S.," Bill Flora, the U.S. director for the Hong Kong Tourism Board tells Travel Agent. "For January through August, U.S. visitation to Asia's World City is up 3.2 percent. On a worldwide basis, visitation is up 16 percent reflecting strong traffic from Mainland China, South Korea and Southeast Asia."

Due to the increased interest in Hong Kong as a destination, Richard Bangs, host of PBS' Adventures with Purpose, will be taping a new episode exploring the ancient concept of harmony and how it pervades Chinese culture.

The show will be set against the backdrop of Hong Kong, Macau and China's Guangdong province. Highlights will include Peak Tram, Aqua Luna, Lung King Heen Restaurant, Lamma Island, Calligraphy, the new Ritz-Carlton, Po Lin Monastery and more. The program will air in February 2012.
