Earlier this year, Travel Agent was at the Richard Rodgers Theatre to see New York’s hottest Broadway production, the Tony Award-winning musical “Hamilton.” For the audience, the show is a highly entertaining history lesson. For the tiny island of Nevis, it is helping to create buzz and generate awareness.

Nevis, the sister island to St. Kitts, doesn’t have a massive marketing budget like other Caribbean islands, so to be able to piggy back on the success of New York’s hottest play is the perfect opportunity to use this leverage to make more people aware of the beautiful island in the West Indies.

In case you’re wondering what the correlation is, Alexander Hamilton was born in Nevis and spent the first three years of his life there.

“The ‘Hamilton’ musical has transformed the world’s awareness of Nevis through the immense interest in the play and Alexander Hamilton,” Rand Scholet, president of the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society, tells us. “People clearly know now that Alexander Hamilton was born in Nevis. When they look into Nevis, they discover an island rich with beauty, world-class resorts and cuisine, and welcoming ambassadors. The Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society has seen a dramatic increase of determination to get to Nevis, and every bit of feedback we receive is full of delightful memories.”

Now, resorts on the beautiful Caribbean island of Nevis are paying homage to their native son, Alexander Hamilton, with a couple of very special package offers.

“A place can be a hidden jewel; however when a blockbuster Broadway musical tells Alexander Hamilton’s story, people want to walk in his footsteps, and are captivated by the son of Nevis,” says Scholet. “As people have visited and shared their joyful visit with others, it creates an interest unseen prior to the musical. The ‘Hamilton’ musical is one of the most successful shows in world history. With such an endearing story and person, all things Hamilton are naturally going to be searched out.”

For agents looking to capitalize on the Hamilton phenomenon, Travel Agent breaks down some Nevis hotel packages that include a history lesson on Alexander Hamilton with a luxury twist.
