Inside the Grand Hyatt Kauai’s Millennial Selling Points

As part of our recent coverage of the Journese Curators event in Hawaii, Travel Agent stayed at the luxurious Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa and came back with a wealth of selling points for affluent Millennials looking to take a trip to the Aloha State.

A saltwater lagoon, lavish cabanas and swimming pools, stylish restaurants and in-room designs with the latest technology are just a few selling points we’d recommend pitching to Millennial couples and young parents.

The Rooms

There are 602 rooms, including 37 suites, the best of which are the hotel’s two Presidential Suites. Those rooms are 2,463- to 2,813-square-foot suites, offering top-floor ocean views from a private terrace. The rooms also feature an entry foyer, a comfortable sitting area with a telescope for whale watching, a dining table for six, a kitchen, a wet bar and a half-bath.

A separate bedroom features one king-sized Hyatt Grand Bed and a private bath with four-seat spa tub. Additional deluxe amenities include padded teak loungers on the lanai, an iHome alarm clock radio, wireless internet access, a work area, beverage chillers, a 55-inch flat-screen TV and robes. An additional connecting bedroom is available upon request for an extra charge.

We also checked out room no. 3067, a Deluxe Ocean View room with pool views and thought this room had incredible value. It has a private balcony, a large marble bathroom with a double sink vanity and either a large walk-in shower or shower/tub combo. These rooms include deluxe amenities such as a private lanai, in-room safe large enough to store a laptop computer, iHome alarm clock radio,  a 37-inch flat-screen TV, chillers, Hawaiian Kona coffee, a seating area and a work station. Travel Agent was also told that the hotel is in the process of replacing all TVs with Spotify-equipped televisions.

The Pool

Millennials can chill the day away in the inviting pools and lagoons, where clients will find everything a lava-rock-lined lazy river pool past waterfalls, quiet seating nooks and hidden caves that end at the hotel’s 150-foot waterslide.

Before heading for a dip, clients are recommended to first stop at the hotel’s Recreation Desk, located on the lower level of the pool, next to Hale Nalu restaurant. This is the place to get your beach towels and a waterslide wristband.

While you're at the desk, clients can also make reservations for some recreational activities including scuba diving lessons in the property's saltwater lagoon. You can also reserve one of our beachfront cabanas, perfect for relaxing in private. We loved these cabanas, which were almost the size of a full Queen bed. The Kauai sun is quite strong and having a shaded bed is a great way to escape the rays when they get too strong. You should reserve those in the morning. They start at about $55 for the day. It includes more personal service than the other areas of the pool area and an ice chest full of bottled water.

The Spa

The Anara Spa has 17 treatment rooms, including two couples areas. Agents should also note that we were told the best treatment here is the Lomi Lomi massage, a traditional massage of Hawaii that embraces you with flowing strokes.

Agents should also note that there is a fee of about $30 for guests who would like to use the spa’s facilities, such as the sauna and steam room, without getting a treatment. Massages, body treatments, and facials are offered in private rooms or hale (thatched-roof bungalow) each opening to its own tropical garden.

Also, fitness facilities are open 24/7 with Precor cardio and weight equipment.

Dining

Tidepools is the best restaurant here. Clients can feast on some fresh fish and steak amidst tiki-torch lit tropical gardens and koi-filled lagoons. There are no reservations required here, but they are recommended the morning of to ensure clients get a table.

Stevenson’s Sushi and Spirits another highly recommended restaurant and is said to have some of the best sushi on the island. Another notable dining spot is Dondero's, which serves some tasty Italian food. We highly recommended anything here that using bolognese sauce.

There is also a fully-operational Starbucks in the hotel that clients can bill to their room.
