Lufthansa Expands Service Throughout Germany and Europe

DusseldorfWith the October 31 start of its winter timetable, Lufthansa will add destinations and frequencies to its network schedule. The airline will provide service to 197 destinations in 85 countries (previous year: 191 destinations in 78 countries), with the average number of flights per week increasing from 11,803 to 12,218 (+3.5 percent).
Lufthansa’s ongoing fleet renewal program, which replaces existing aircrafts with larger and more fuel efficient ones, and the addition of a fourth A380, the airline’s new flagship, are contributing to an overall 9.1 percent increase in seat capacity.
Lufthansa is also enhancing its seasonal service with connections to Munich from Washington, DC, Miami and Montreal, making these cities year-round destinations for the first time. Also new and starting on October 31st is a second, late-night flight from Newark to Frankfurt, which departs at 10:10 PM. In addition, the frequency of the seasonal MiamiDusseldorf flight has increased from five flights per week to seven flights per week.

Luxembourg Joins Lufthansa Route Network

This winter, Lufthansa is also expanding its network in Europe with the introduction of flights from Munich to Luxembourg, which will augment the service offered by its partner Luxair. The route will be operated up to twice daily by a Lufthansa CityLine CRJ700. In addition, Luxair will offer three direct flights per day from Luxembourg to Munich. During the winter schedule, Lufthansa will also extend its route from Dusseldorf to Venice and Nice, as well as from Hamburg to Nice.
The other four carriers in the Lufthansa Airline Group – Austrian Airlines, bmi, Brussels Airlines and SWISS – are also launching their winter schedule on October 31. Together, the five airlines will then serve 258 destinations in 107 countries on four continents from their hubs at Brussels, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Munich, Vienna and Zurich, and also augment each other’s frequencies with numerous codeshare flights.
The new destinations in the 2010/11 winter timetable:
*    Frankfurt – Bogotá, five times per week (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday)
*    Frankfurt – Libreville – Pointe Noire, five timex per week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday)
*    Munich – Luxembourg, 12 times per week
