As Madeira continues to recuperate from the weekend's devastating floods, the island's tourism industry is encouraging travelers to continue with their plans to visit. Still, reports the Telegraph, hotels are seeing high numbers of cancelations and cruise ships are being rerouted away from the island.
At least 41 people were killed and at least 100 when flash floods, landslides and mudslides swept through the streets of Funchal. Approximately 32 people are still missing, and 370 left homeless.
Today, sections of the city that were closed off due to damage have been reopened, and the authorities are expecting a speedy recovery as help arrives from the mainland.
