Maritime Museum in the Works for Port Canaveral

The Canaveral Port Authority gave a nod on Wednesday to pursue plans for a brand new maritime museum and visitors center at the port, which will help make Port Canaveral an onshore destination for cruise goers when ships are docked.

The museum's theme will be the history of Florida and will include an observation tower. The construction of these two landmarks are in conjunction with plans to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon landing in North America, which according to experts happened in the same county as Port Canaveral.
