Maui Basketball Tournament Brought in $6 Million

The 2009 EA Sports Maui Invitational generated $6 million in visitor spending last November, according to a report in Pacific Business News.

The early-season college basketball tournament, hosted by Chaminade University of Honolulu, is held annually in Lahaina just before Thanksgiving. According to the Maui Visitors Bureau, the tournament attracted thousands of out-of-state visitors who stayed on Maui for an average of six days.

Since its inception in 1984, the Maui Invitational has brought more than $140 million to Maui’s economy and contributed separately to groups such as Maui Food Bank and Boy Scouts of Maui, the bureau said.
