New Arena for Acapulco's Tennis Tournament Debuts

Mundo Imperial Entertainment & Hospitality has debuted Arena GNP Seguros, the new home of the 29th annual Abierto Mexicano Telcel (Telcel Mexican Tennis Open presented by HSBC), which concluded February 26.

Opened for the popular sporting event, Arena GNP Seguros is a major breakthrough for Mundo Imperial. Located in the heart of Riviera Diamante in Acapulco, Arena GNP Seguros stands at over 968,000 square feet. The tennis stadium and multi-use venue was inaugurated exclusively for the Abierto Mexicano and will continue to host some of Mexico’s biggest events, from concerts and entertainment to cultural events, sports games and beyond.

Arena GNP Seguros is the largest venue in Latin America for an ATP tournament, with capacity for over 10,000 fans to cheer on their favorite players, in addition to a grandstand for 3,000, a grandstand for 1,500 and three courts for qualifying rounds, plus features including 4K technology, 28 private suites for spectators, multiple green spaces, accessible areas, a kids’ zone, and restaurant with panoramic views. Host hotel Princess Mundo Imperial welcomes fans to the tournament’s iconic Acapulco home just as the hotel celebrates its 50th anniversary. 

As one of Latin America’s most important sporting events, this year’s Abierto Mexicano featured top 10 players including three-time champion Rafael Nadal (No. 4), Daniil Medvedev (No. 1), previous titleholder Alexander Zverev (No. 3), Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 5) and Mattero Berretini (No. 7), and players from the top 50 including Cameron Norrie (No. 12), Pablo Carreño Busta (No. 16), Taylor Fritz (No. 20), John Isner (No. 23), and Grigor Dimitrov (No. 37).

Arena architect José de Arimatea Moyao López, of Moyao Arquitectos, is also the master behind the new Teatro Libanés in Mexico City and the Forum Mundo Imperial in Acapulco, among other popular venues.
