New Yacht Club, Flights Coming to U.S. Virgin Islands

THE BAHAMAS–Henry W. de Lagrade, director of tourism and general manager, North America, for the United States Virgin Islands Department of Tourism, reminded Caribbean Tourism Conference attendees of the of the islands' recent developments. Set to debut in March, the islands will be home to the new Yacht Haven Grande in St. Thomas. It is designed for "mega-yachts" and will cater to those who own or operate them. It will feature a yacht club, extensive retail and office space, four restaurants and 12 three-bedroom condominiums with balconies facing the water. Also, opening in December on St. Thomas will be the $28 million Crown Bay Center, which will be an upscale, waterfront retail shopping and commercial center, located on the southwest side of the island and will offer, among other things, a range of dining options and nightly entertainment. In airline news, Northwest will offer nonstop, weekly flights between Detroit Metropolitan Airport and Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas on Saturdays. The aircraft, an Airbus A-320, can hold up to 148 passengers.
