It’s official: New York City had a very busy 2014. In fact, the Big Apple welcomed a record number of visitors last year. A total of 56.4 million people ventured to New York City, and tourism generated $61.3 billion in economic impact. The hotel industry sold 32.4 million hotel room nights, also a record number.
"Our five boroughs are brimming with new enclaves of diverse food, performances and art shows around every corner. Our excellent quality of life, low levels of crime and constant dynamism continue to attract record tourism each year, and 2014 was no exception,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio
Most of the visitors came from the U.S. (44.2 million). The additional 12.2 million visited from international locations. The city has seen a 23 percent increase in tourism rates since 2009, when about 46 million people visited.
