Peru Opens a Modern Art Museum

Trujillo, the capital of La Libertad and the third most populous city in Peru, inaugurated its first modern art museum on Thursday, becoming the latest addition of cultural attractions in the country's northern tourism circuit. The unveiling of the museum was attended by artists, critics and dignitaries including the general manager of PromPeru, Mara Seminario, and the newly elected President of Peru, Alan Garcia. The museum is a result of the efforts of Peruvian modern artist Gerardo Chavez, a native of Trujillo. "It is my hope that the creation of this museum will put both Peru's contemporary art offerings and Trujillo on the radar of international art enthusiasts and travelers," Chavez said.
