See the Iditarod at the Millennium Anchorage Hotel

The Millennium Anchorage Hotel in Alaska is offering travelers a special chance to view the 2012 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, which starts March 3rd.

The hotel is the official Iditarod Race Headquarters and will play host to the Iditarod Trail Committee during the 10- to 17-day over 1,150 miles of some of the world’s harshest terrain.

The “Iditarod Race Start” package, valid from March 2 to 4, includes one or two nights stay in a deluxe guestroom, a signed copy of the book “The Lance Mackey Story,” a 2012 Iditarod souvenir package, breakfast for two in the Flying Machine Restaurant or room service and complimentary internet to watch the Iditarod Race updates. Rates start from $199 per room per night, based on double occupancy.

Travelers who arrive a bit earlier can enjoy the Fur Rondy, an outdoor winter festival that includes the Running of the Reindeer, snow sculpture contests, a vintage snow machine race, Carnival, multi-tribal gatherings and native art market, music, fireworks and sports championships from Yukigassen to hockey. These activities run February 24 to March 4.
