Serenity in Hawaii

"LUANA" IS HAWAIIAN FOR "TO RELAX," OR MORE ACCURATELY "TO BE AT LEISURE WITH ONE'S SURROUNDINGS." And there's no better place for travelers to unwind and enjoy Hawaii's gorgeous surroundings than at one of its many spas. Always a popular vacation pick, Hawaii—with its stunning scenery and laid-back atmosphere—can satisfy everyone from honeymooners to baby boomers to families with young children. We suggest adding spa aficionados to your list of potential Hawaii travelers, and here we highlight three facilities that will send them home spoiled and stress-free. Deluxe Ocean King room at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa

The Na Ho'ola Spa at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa (www.waikiki.hyatt.com) encompasses 19 treatment rooms, 10,000 square feet and two floors. With several relaxation lounges overlooking Waikiki Beach, the spa is the perfect spot for beach-loving clients seeking to unwind after a day in the hot Hawaiian sun.

Top treatments include the lomi lomi massage—Polynesian for "loving hands" massage—a 50-minute re-energizing treatment during which the massage therapist performs a hula dance around the massage table. Other top picks are the Kai Water Soak and the Hawaiian Noni Wrap. Spa services, overseen by Jerry Ferreira, the Na Ho'ola Spa's director, are infused with local ingredients like papaya, pineapple and macadamia nuts. Contact Ferreira for any questions or to book appointments at 808-237-6330 or [email protected].

The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa recently completed a massive upgrade of all its guest rooms. When considering which rooms to book for your clients, take the many available views into account. The best accommodations are in the hotel's Diamond Head Tower, rooms 59 through 63. The best city views are in the Eva Tower, floors 5 through 14. Of these, the top views are in room numbers ending in 05. From the 25th floor and higher, guests have a view of the coastline, beach and Waikiki's Diamond Head. The Spa at Four Seasons

Last summer's $50 million worth of refurbishments brought the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea (www.fourseasons.com/maui) to a new level of comfort. More than 380 guest rooms were renovated and works by top Hawaii artists were placed throughout the hotel.

Renovations at The Spa at Four Seasons Resort Maui included the creation of three oceanside hales—traditional wood hut-like structures with thatched roofs, built without nails or screws—where guests can have massages and other treatments. The spa also has 13 rooms with Vichy showers, a salon, a yoga and fitness program. A unique option is the Aquacranial massage therapy—a scalp massage performed in the ocean.

For advance spa bookings, contact Pat Makozak, senior spa director, at 808-874-2939 or [email protected]. Recommend that clients try the revitalizing signature Four Seasons treatment, which is meant to evoke the changing seasons and includes a warm herbal wrap (spring), a massage medley (summer), a soothing scalp treatment (fall) and a peppermint scrub (winter). Another favorite is the Ho'oulu (stimulating) treatment, which is said to boost the immune system using a pineapple papaya tropical polish and an Asian-roasted green tea and ginger seaweed mask.

Eighty percent of the rooms at the Four Seasons feature ocean views. The best bet for families to book is the three-bedroom Maile Suite, which boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, six connecting lanais that overlook the beach, a formal living area and office and an elegant dining room with kitchen. Its marble master bathroom has a whirlpool and a separate eucalyptus rain shower.

Travel agent liaison for the resort is Lenora Yuen, senior sales manager. Call 714-281-8556 or e-mail [email protected].

Honua Spa at Hotel Hana-Maui

For clients who truly want an escape vacation, suggest Hotel Hana-Maui (www.hotelhanamaui.com) on Maui's picturesque eastern coast. The tranquil property at the end of Hana Highway is perfect for high-end clients who want the ultimate in peace and quiet; rooms have no TVs, radios or alarm clocks.

The hotel's Honua Spa houses nine treatment rooms and offers an array of treatments using Hana's local minerals and plants. (Guests can purchase the full line of natural products, as well as relaxation music, jewelry and Hawaiian teas at the Honua Spa Shop.)

A highlight of the spa is its outdoor lava rock whirlpool, with nearby lounge chairs in a tropical garden overlooking Hana Bay. Top services include the hour-long Hawaiian Ginger Body Scrub and Honua Wrap, an invigorating skin treatment that ends with the application of a hydrating body butter, and the signature Honua Facial and Hot Stone Massage, which lasts for 90 minutes and features a purifying enzyme mask.

A special spa concierge, on hand from the hours of 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., can help you customize your clients' spa itineraries and can answer questions prior to their arrival. Reach the spa concierge at 808-270-5290.

Suggest that clients stay in one of the hotel's Sea Ranch Cottages, which are airy and private, or in rooms 211, 212, 411, 412, 511 or 512, which have the best views of the glittering Pacific Ocean. The travel agent contact is Valorey Ng, at 808-270-3256.
