South Africa's Minister of Tourism, Marthinus van Schalkwyk, has announced the appointment of Thandiwe Sylvia January-Mclean CEO of South Africa Tourism, commencing January 1.

January-Mclean comes to the three-year roll from Portugal where she served as the South African ambassador. Prior to this she was the deputy director-general or arts, culture and language in society in the Department of Arts and Culture. She was also national coordinator of the 10 Years of Freedom Celebrations Presidential Project.

"I am confident that her skills as a consummate manager, her exceptional understanding of the South African brand and her insight into the strategic challenges faced by the tourism industry will serve her will in her new position," says Minister van Schalkwyk.
