Stay With a Local Family in Peru

Baobab Expeditions is offering a 12-day adventure in Peru to include a special visit to the Amazonian Rain Forest. Your clients will stay with an Amazonian family for two nights and will share in their way of life.

Clients will hear about the uses, customs, myths and legends of the rain forest and its ecosystems and how they support saving it without losing financial benefit. They will also see how the Baltimore TReeS Community Project works to protect the vast beauty of this area and its fauna and flora. In addition, Baobab gives a donation toward the support of the rain forest through the project for every booking on this trip made.

The Baobab Expeditions journey begins with two days in Lima where clients explore the city, founded in 1535, and home to eight million people. From there, they head to Puerto Maldona, home of some of the most pristine primary rain forests in the world, which includes several oxbow lakes. It is here that clients may stay with a local family for two nights, allowing them to see the rain forest through the eyes of local residents.

Spend the fifth and sixth day in Cusco, the ancient capital of the Incan Empire and still one of the most important destinations in Peru. Trekking, thermal baths, rafts and kayak rides, paragliding, hang gliding, and climbing are some of the many activities your clients will  experience in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. This is the home of two well-known handicraft markets: Pisac and Chincero.

Towards the end of the adventure, travelers explore Machu Picchu via a Vistadome coach. This landmark setting is one of the most important and beautiful legacies of ancient Peru and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

The last two days of the journey are spent in Puno where, among other things, you’ll view the decorated polychrome ceilings at the Church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, also known as the Sistine Chapel of the Americas.

Pricing begins at $2491 per person for double occupancy. Included are: private services with a local English speaking guide, entrance fees and meals, a bus ticket to and from the Machu Picchu ruins and 11 nights accommodation. The expedition requires easy to moderate physical effort. Rates do not include the Cusco/Puno bus journey.
