Thailand Lifts Mandatory Quarantine for Fully Vaccinated Travelers

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that the country is ready to welcome fully vaccinated visitors, including returning Thais and foreign residents, from approved “low risk” countries. Such visitors will be allowed entry into Thailand by air with no quarantine requirements. The United States, Canada and the United Kingdom are included on the list of approved low-risk countries.

As part of the new “Test & Go” entry scheme for fully vaccinated travelers from approved countries, visitors are required to travel by air from the approved countries/territories where travelers must have stayed for 21 days or more (except Thais and foreign residents). Documents required include a Certificate of Vaccination (fully vaccinated) with an approved vaccine at least 14 days before travel; those previously infected within three months must have received one dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before travel and a medical certificate of recovery; a medical certificate with an RT-PCR lab result indicating that COVID-19 is not detected issued no more than 72 hours before travel; an insurance policy with coverage no less than $50,000; and a confirmed payment for one-night stay at an SHA+, AQ, OQ or AHQ accommodation, and one RT-PCR test. Travelers under 12 years of age, traveling with parents, are exempt from the vaccination requirement.

Before arrival, travelers are required to apply for the Thailand Pass QR Code at tp.consular.go.th. They will have to wait for an approval of Vaccine Certification and paid accommodations including RT-PCR. Upon confirmation of approval, visitors will receive Thailand Pass QR Code. Once travelers arrive in Thailand, they will be required to present the Thailand Pass QR Code to the Health Control officials to carry out checks before moving on to immigration procedures. They will have to undergo the RT-PCR COVID-19 test at the reserved accommodation, or the pre-arranged test center. Children below six years will be required to undergo a saliva test. Visitors will then proceed to the hotel by the pre-arranged airport transfer (distance from airport within two hours). They will then download and install the MorChana app at the hotel.

Visitors will stay at least one night at an SHA+, AQ, OQ or AHQ accommodation and wait for the test result within the room. Hospital partner must report the result within six hours. If they test negative for COVID-19, travelers will receive an Antigen Testing Kit (ATK) for COVID-19 self-testing on Day six-seven. MorChana will alert for self-testing ATK on Day six-seven, then record the result in the application.

Visitors are required to practice the “D-M-H-T-T-A precautions:” Distancing, mask wearing, handwashing, temperature check, testing for COVID-19, and alert application. Travelers are then free to go anywhere in Thailand or leave for other countries; however, they are advised to follow the guidelines and measures announced by the respective country of their destination.
