Switzerland Amends Entry, Test Regulations

Switzerland has amended its entry and test regulations. Gone into effect on January 22, the following entry and testing requirements now apply to travelers entering Switzerland from the United States and Canada:

  • Fully vaccinated visitors from the U.S. will not be required to take a pre-arrival test
  • Fully vaccinated and recovered visitors from Canada will not need a pre-arrival test
  • Travelers must complete, no earlier than 48 hours before departure, the online form of the Federal Office of Public Health.

Note: The last vaccination dose must not be older than 270 days. (if your last vaccination is older than 270 days, the traveler is considered as not vaccinated, according to Switzerland).

In addition, the Swiss Federal Council requires all people vaccinated outside of the European Union (including tourists from the U.S. and Canada) to apply for the Swiss vaccination certificate in order to enter indoor venues in Switzerland.

Important: According to Switzerland Tourism, the Federal Council is shortening the validity period of all vaccination certificates from 365 to 270 days from January 31, 2022. This ensures that the Swiss certificate continues to be recognized in the E.U. Certificates issued as proof of recovery from COVID-19 will also only be valid for 270 days. To add your booster shot to your already existing Swiss COVID certificate, please note that you have to re-apply for a new certificate.

Should you already possess an E.U. COVID certificate issued by an E.U. country, this will be accepted in Switzerland and there is no need to apply for the Swiss COVID certificate. Other travelers can apply for the Swiss COVID certificate at www.covidcertificate-form.admin.ch. That said, travelers spending their first night after arrival in Geneva, must apply through smc02.hug.ch.
