American Airlines, in partnership with American Eagle, will increase its schedule of flights out of South Florida airports in 2010.
Flights out of Miami will see increased service to Lima, Peru; San Jose, Costa Rica; and San Juan, Puerto Rico starting in February 2010. Fort Lauderdale will also increase its service with a fourth daily Kingston, Jamaica flight as service to San Pedro Sula, Honduras will experience increased capacity in the summer of 2010.
Starting February 11, 2010, Miami International Airport (MIA) will run a third daily flight to Lima, and a fourth daily flight to San Jose. An eighth flight will operate twice a week to San Juan. American will also add a second daily flight from Fort Lauderdale International Airport to Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
By June 2010 a fourth daily flight from to Kingston will be added to the schedule and the 148-seat Boeing 737 currently used for flights operating to San Pedro Sula, Honduras will be switched out to the larger 188-seat Boeing 757.
As previously announced, American Eagle will begin service from MIA with five new destinations beginning November 19, including: Eleuthera, Governors Harbour, and Treasure Cay in the Bahamas, Charleston, SC and Knoxville, TN. One additional flight will also be added to the schedule for Cancun, Mexico, Montreal, Curacao, Grand Cayman, Providenciales in Turks and Caicos, Punta Cana and Santo Domingo the Dominican Republic, Freeport in the Bahamas; Panama City in Panama, Guatemala City in Guatemala, Medellin in Colombia, and Sao Paulo in Brazil.
U.S. service to the following cities will also be increased by one daily flight: Dallas/Fort Worth, Washington-Reagan, Washington-Dulles, Detroit, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago O’Hare, Norfolk, Virginia; Phoenix, and Tampa, Florida. Service to New York-LaGuardia will increase with two daily flights.
Other destinations will see a similar boost in their weekly frequencies starting in November. In the Caribbean, this schedule increase includes: Antigua, Bermuda, St. Croix, St. Maarten, and St. Lucia. In addition, expect flight increases to Belize City, Liberia-Guanacaste, and San Salvador in Central America; and Belo Horizonte, Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro in South America; and Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas. In the U.S., flights to Orlando will increase, and seasonal service to Eagle-Vail, Colorado will operate four times per week through April 5.
