Gatwick Plans to Expand

TTG Digital reports that Gatwick Airport in Sussex plans to expand until it can accommodate 40 million passengers per year by 2020.

Gatwick said that the plan involves making more efficient use of its single runway.

“Growing traffic during off-peak periods when existing runway capacity is not being fully utilised is one way of doing this,” said Gatwick.

“Bringing in newer, larger aircraft at Gatwick will also encourage growth in passenger numbers and this will require some minor adjustments to the airfield and the way passengers are handled from these aircraft.”

A three-month consultation period regarding the expansion plan will run until January 13.
