Greek Seamen Strike Ends; Uncertainty Remains

Reuters reports that Greek seamen have ended their eight-day strike to protest the government's austerity measures, citing pressure from farmers fearing the delay in shipping caused by the strike would threaten their produce.

"The strike is over. It lasted eight days and our demands were not satisfied. We must now re-evaluate our strengths and reorganise," said Yannis Halas, general secretary of the Panhellenic Seamen's Federation PNO.L.

There has been no further word on previous reports of the further strikes planned by other labor unions in the coming week.
