First-Hand Look at Oasis Hotels & Resorts’ $30 Million Upgrades

Travel Agent recently returned from Cancun, Mexico, where we caught a first-hand glimpse of Oasis Hotels & Resorts’ recently-completed, $30 million upgrades.

Among a host of other improvements and added amentities, the Grand Oasis Cancun will feature new food and beverage venues featuring upscale options such as Shula's Steak House, which will open at the resort in February; a new beach club experience featuring on-beach entertainment with live DJ daily, lounge chairs, food and beverage service, and more; renovated accommodations; a new "Grand Sens" level of accommodations, which includes private check-in/check-out; private concierge, private VIP lounge, free Internet access and more.

Travel Agent saw the new room amenities at this resort as well as the property’s nighttime entertainment offerings. On Thursday, we gathered in the lobby of the central pyramid for a unique presentation of the aerial show "Bird Men” by Humanicorp, followed by a DJ performance before a live concert featuring R&B legends, Kool & the Gang.

Meanwhile, the Oasis Cancun will feature a new beach club experience featuring on-beach entertainment with live DJ daily, lounge chairs, food and beverage service, and more. The Ibiza Beach Club will be a South Beach style club with DJ entertainment. There will also be new evening entertainment with the Spice Disco, Coyote Bar, "Vegas on the Beach" gambling, evening theater shows, and beach parties; renovated accommodations and new food and beverage concepts with additional venues including three specialty restaurants (Mexican, Italian, Sushi), two buffet restaurants, four casual eateries (Deli Sports Bar, Diner, Beach Club, Beach BBQ) plus four indoor bars and six outdoor bars.

The adult-oriented Sens Del Mar is focused on relaxation and is ideal for couples who enjoy a romantic ambiance surrounded by a zen environment with the Caribbean and Nichupté Lagoon as a backdrop. Enhancements include new guest rooms - all accommodations have been renovated and feature canopy king-size bed or two double beds, 42-inch flat screen TV with cable service and Pay Per View channels, Wi-Fi (at an additional cost except for Oasis Loves U VIP Suites), iPod station and more.

Also, there is a new beach club experience and a new Smart Car service, in which guests staying in the VIP Club Suites will have access to a complimentary Smart Car (subject to availability). Insurance fees of $30 per day will be additional.

Sense Del Mar was our favorite Oasis Hotels & Resorts property

Sens Del Mar may be our favorite of the company's resorts. The property is basically an adults-only resort. Technically, it promotes itself as "adults oriented" since children are welcome at the resort but are charged the same price as an adult and have very limited - if any at all - activities to do at the resort. This, in our opinion, is a good trait as the resort's quiet and soothing atmosphere provides a great contrast to some of Oasis' louder, more vibrant properties.

The property consists of 388 rooms. They all basically have the same design and layout, but offer different views. Our hands down favorite rooms, however, were any of the 44 rooms offering a plunge pool on the balcony. The resort plans to add roughly 20 more of these rooms within the next month.

Book this resort for younger couples looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway in perhaps Mexico's most hyper, revitalized destination.

After our tour of the Sens Del Mar property, Travel Agent took a tour of both the enhanced Oasis Palm Beach and Grand Oasis Palm. Both resorts recently reopened after being closed for a year.

The 245-room Grand Oasis Palm is perhaps the company's go-to resort for families. We were particularly impressed that children under the age of 12 are welcomed at this resort for free.

There are currently two rooms that are specifically decorated for children. One of the rooms, Room #1811S, is decorated with a marine theme. The blue, vibrant walls have such designs as lobsters and submarines, while Room #1804 features a jungle/safari theme, with such designs such as tigers and elephant on the walls. Within the next month there will be eight more of these rooms.

The 470-room Oasis Palm Beach is also heavily family oriented, but the amenities are limited as guests of this resort are not allowed to use the services of Grand Oasis Palm, however clients at Grand Oasis Palm are allowed to use the facilities at this resort.

The most impressive amenity by far is the Kids' Club. In fact, this is perhaps one of the most impressive kids clubs we have seen in all of Mexico as it features everything from a disco to a pool with a water slide to a children's restaurant. The club is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is free. The Kids' Club, however, is only offered to children 12 and under.
