Grupo Posadas and La Colección Resorts Offer New Cooking Class

Grupo Posadas and La Colección Resorts by Fiesta Americana have launched “Our Chefs’ Cooking Class.” The virtual class will help participants explore local Mexican cuisine and help support the work of Fundación Posadas, the charitable branch of Grupo Posadas.

The signature cooking class will be livestreamed on March 31 at 6 p.m. (EDT) from Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos. Gerardo Rivera, the corporate chef of Grupo Posadas and Alejandro Macías, the resort’s executive sous-chef will be leading the event. The cooking lesson will focus on Pescado a la Veracruzana, or Veracruz-style fish, a tribute to seaside culinary traditions on Mexico’s Gulf Coast. The dish uses a range of ingredients. Seasonings include white wine, bay leaves, thyme, marjoram, oregano and dark chocolate.

According to Enrique Calderón, COO of Grupo Posadas, the cooking lesson also offers an opportunity to raise funds and help showcase the work of Grupo Posadas through Fundación Posadas. Often abbreviated as FUNPOS, it is the philanthropic arm of Grupo Posadas—the corporate parent of La Colección Resorts by Fiesta Americana. Created in the aftermath of 2005’s Hurricane Wilma and its devastation in the Caribbean, the organization aims to help those who need it most.

Education is a major component of FUNPOS’ work, and over 5,800 scholarships have been awarded to children and young persons so they can stay in school and improve their prospects. A new community training program opening this year is also aimed at helping the impoverished overcome long-standing obstacles and enter the workforce. The foundation’s work in healthcare has also helped thousands seek medical treatments, regardless of their income. FUNPOS also continues the work of its original founding, helping families affected by natural disasters to recover and rebuild their lives by providing construction materials, restoring household goods and distributing food supplies to thousands of individuals.

The virtual cooking class is priced at $25. Participants can register for the event via the Fundación Posadas website. They will receive an email with instructions on how to access the content.
