Hotel Union Øye to Reopen in June

Hotel Union Øye, part of the travel company 62ºNORD, will reopen in June following an extensive transformation. Located by the remote Norangsfjord in the Sunnmøre region on the north-west coast of Norway, the property is a favorite with Norwegian royalty, explorers, artists and writers.

The hotel’s suites are individually designed and named after previous guests including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Roald Amundsen. The three new suites include the King’s Suite, after King Olav; William Cecil Slingsby’s Suite, after the famous mountaineer and the Queen’s Suite. Each has a separate lounge, open fireplace and private balcony with mountain views. Additional accommodation can be found in the new Cluster Farm, consisting of five standalone guesthouses. Designed to reflect that of a traditional Norwegian farm settlement, these guesthouses are more rustic in their look and feel, and range from one- to four-suite units.

Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are served in the main restaurant, which has seen the addition of The Conservatory, an airy space that brings the outdoors in. During summer, guests can dine al fresco. The Palm Room, an all-day lounge and bar, offers a menu of teas and coffees by day and classic cocktails by night. The new Wine Cellar has an extensive collection and is spread across two rooms—one dedicated to red wine and the other dedicated to white wine. Tip: Guests can enjoy wine-tasting experiences with the resident sommelier in addition to private dining in groups.

Guests can spend their days exploring this mountainous region either solo or accompanied by a local guide. Activities include hiking, biking, boat trips on the fjords, croquet on the lawn in summer and ice skating on the lake in winter. Guests will also enjoy a stroll through the property’s gardens – the formal garden at the front, the vegetable garden, which serves the kitchen, and the French and Victorian gardens.

Guests can also head to The Library, which has a collection of antique "Alpine Journals" and contemporary coffee table books. Alternatively, The Game Room serves as a space to relax and unwind or enjoy a beverage from the small bar.

Hotel Union Øye is part of Relais & Châteaux collection.
